DonCARES founder honored as TU BLSA "Rising Star"

Temple University's Black Law Students Association Pre-Law Division hosted their first annual Black Excellence Gala on Saturday, February 19, 2017, at 7 PM. Among the honorees was Temple University junior and secondary education and history major, Donovan Forrest.

Forrest a 2013 graduate of Samuel Fels High School and a current education major at Temple University has a deep passion for mentoring youth in North Philadelphia. The award goes to five members of the North Philadelphia community who have shown a dedication to service in their community. Among the honorees were Malcolm Kenyatta, a Temple Alum, and community activist and Executive Director of The Center for Returning Citizens (TCRC) Jondhi Harrell.

Forrest is responsible for founding a mentoring and tutoring non-profit that services youth in underserved neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Currently, the organization works at The U School in North Philadelphia and has previously held after school programming at Strawberry Mansion Learning Center in the Fairmount Park Section of North Philadelphia.
